If you are in fear of your life, or that of another, use of deadly force is “self defense”. Whether “self defense” is a valid reason for use of deadly force is a separate legal question.

As the prankesters intended to demonstrate a deadly attack to view responses, one could reasonably assume that a reasonable person would view that as a reasonable justification to be in fear of you life.

Shooting the prankster would likely be justified as “self defense” and where that’s legal for use of deadly force, the shooter would face no charges, or be tried and prevail at trial.

I’ve witnessed a number of zombie attacks, and never once thought them real, so one would hope that someone with a firearm would show similar sense, and not kill anyone. So perhaps the argument would be that a reasonable person would never believe in a zombie attack, thus the shooting could never be justified. In that case, the person could be charged with murder, or other criminal homicide.

No I don’t think prank videos are offensive, as long as they are just harmless fun. There have been some great funny pranks played on the public in programs like candid camera and Beadles about. One of my favourite pranks was in an episode of candid camera where the program makers set up a shop with a television in a high street.

The tv is made to look like it is giving a bad reception, the person from the program stands at the shop door and keeps asking people passing the shop to help him, by speaking to him on the shop phone and telling him when the reception is good as he adjusts the arial on the roof. After he leaves the shop, a few minutes later the reception becomes clear and on the tv is a snooker match going on, the person who’s been asked to help tells the prankster, `yes it is clear now’.

Just then a snooker ball comes out of the tv and falls near him and then one of the players pops his head out of the tv and asks him for the ball back. The person who’s been set up is shocked and describes what’s just happened to the prankster on the phone, who turn in mocks him by saying, ` what are you saying, a snooker ball has come out of the tv and now one of the players on the tv wants the ball back?’ They play this trick on a number of people before revealing to them that they have been set up. For me this prank ranks as one of the best.
